Make Sure You have the Right Fit the First Time.
First Task
To measure twice and move once.
- Find out the measurements of the space available for your new fridge.
- You will want to know the height/ width/ depth of the space, don't forget to take into account room for the door to open.Write these measurements down and keep them handy when you go shopping.
- It is also important to leave a little "wiggle" room for the air to properly circulate.
Second Task
- Decide whether you want the door to swing right or left. Since most people are right handed, doors generally come catering to right handed people. Make sure the refrigerator you are purchasing has doors that can be changed if you need to switch sides, many doors cannot be changed.
- If you can make that decision before your new appliance is delivered, you can ask the them to change sides before it gets to your kitchen.
- Determine where your best work space is. If it is left or right of your refrigerator, the hinge of the door should be on the opposite side. This will leave the opening close to your counter space.
Third Task
- Measure all the doorways and passage ways leading to your kitchen, especially if you live in an older home. You will want to make sure your new appliance will make it in the house.
